Charges after allegedly throwing dog from Wollongong cliff

A woman has been charged after allegedly throwing a dog off a cliff near Wollongong in 2023.

About 8.30am on Sunday 22 January, 2023, a man was bushwalking near Clive Bissell Drive at Mount Ousley when he heard a dog yelping, after searching the area the man located an upside-down kennel at the base of an escarpment.

An Australian Bulldog was located injured in the kennel; the dog also appeared emaciated and of poor health.

Officers from Wollongong Police, along with Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and the SES, conducted a rescue operation to retrieve the dog, Police will allege the kennel had been thrown off the cliff overnight.

The dog was taken to a local vet; however, was euthanised due to his poor condition and injuries.

Following an extensive investigation, a 32-year-old woman was arrested at a home in Horsley about 11am Friday 12 April, 2024.

The woman was taken to Wollongong Police Station where she was charged with torture, beat etc, and cause death of animal.

She was given bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on 14 May, 2024.
