Community champions from across the Illawarra have been recognised as 2026 NSW Local Women of the Year, celebrating their outstanding contributions to their local communities.

In Shellharbour, long time volunteer Corrine Ann Boyle has been honoured for more than a decade of service. Since 2011, she has supported Warilla Barrack Point Surf Life Saving Club, helped run major events and carnivals, and continues to give back through Vinnies and her local church.

Kiama has recognised two recipients. Suzanne Eggins was honoured for her tireless work preserving the region’s history, leading the Kiama Historical Society and overseeing the Pilot’s Cottage Museum. Fellow recipient Irene Birks was recognised for nearly 20 years of volunteer service, supporting the community through the Red Cross, Lifeline, Meals on Wheels and palliative care.

In Keira, Val Fell OAM has been named Local Woman of the Year for her powerful advocacy in dementia care. After caring for her late husband, Val established a dementia carers support group in Corrimal and an annual Illawarra Dementia Forum, and at 93, continues to study and champion better outcomes for families.

Wollongong’s award has gone to Dr Tamantha Stutchbury, recognised for empowering women in STEM and entrepreneurship. Through iAccelerate and The LIFT Project, she has supported hundreds of businesses, created thousands of local jobs and driven inclusive innovation across the region.

Each recipient was nominated by their local Member of Parliament, highlighting the extraordinary impact women are making across the Illawarra.

The awards coincide with NSW Women’s Week.
