Illawarra response to the federal budget

The federal budget was handed down last night by treasurer Jim Chalmers.

Business Illawarra a few reasons to smile, there’s a few frowns in there as well.

Director Coralie McCarthy, said the paper delivers some measures for businesses in the Illawarra, but falls short on critical infrastructure investment needed for long-term economic growth and job creation.

It’s given the thumbs-up for $500 million from the Innovation Fund to provide merit-based grants for clean energy manufacturing opportunities.

Meantime, the Port Kembla based ‘Community Industry Group’, says there’s not much in the federal budget, for not-for-profit community services.

Community Industry Group CEO Nicky Sloan, said that there’s nothing for Aussies on the very lowest incomes, no increase to social security payments, and while there are tax cuts for everyone, even those on high incomes, there’s nothing for people with the least.
