The University of Wollongong has announced the intended changes to its services and operations, following an extensive staff consultation and feedback process.

The restructure is in response to financial challenges and will improve the effectiveness of UOW’s services and operations while reducing recurrent expenditure.

UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor G.Q. Max Lu thanked staff for their engagement in the transformation process and said the change plan reflected the collective effort of the University community and had evolved considerably from initial proposals.

The restructure will result in a reduction of 99.8 full-time equivalent positions and annual savings of $15.8 million, significantly less than the 155-185 reduction and $22-26 million in savings flagged in the initial Draft Change Proposal.

Professor Lu thanked staff and also acknowledged colleagues taking voluntary redundancy packages as part of the restructure.
