The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds for the Illawarra.
Damaging winds averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are possible, easing below warning thresholds by evening.
The Bureau has recorded a 91 km/h wind gust at Albion Park at 2:31 am, while a 115 km/h wind gust was recorded at Bellambi at 3:01 am.
