Marine Rescue Search and Rescue exercise at Woonona

Volunteers from Marine Rescue Port Kembla will work alongside Surf Life Saving Illawarra members at Woonona this Saturday morning for a Search and Rescue Exercise (SAREX).

The simulation rescue exercise will involve a crew and vessel from Marine Rescue Port Kembla.

Marine Rescue NSW Illawarra Zone Duty Operations Manager Stuart Massey said Search and Rescue Exercises play a vital role in ensuring Marine Rescue volunteers are rescue ready.

“The value that we get from cross-agency training is immense.

“Learning how to communicate inter-agency and also how to act together in the case of a real emergency, we’ve got everything under control.

“The goal of the SAREX this weekend is to test the efficiency of both Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving and their callout capability,” Mr Massey said.

The SAREX is planned to begin at 10am on Saturday May 6.
