Man charged after Thirroul house fire

A man has been charged following a house fire in the Illawarra last week.

About 6.40pm on Thursday the 4th September, emergency services were called to a home on Palmyra Avenue Thirroul, following reports of a fire.

Officers attached to Wollongong Police District arrived to find the house well alight before Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the blaze.

Police arrested a 49-year-old man before taking him to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

A crime scene was established, and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

About 2:00pm yesterday, the man was discharged from hospital and taken to Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with damage property by fire and breach of bail.

The man refused bail to appear in Bail Division Court 3 today.
