The NSW Labor Government is significantly expanding its investment in shark-spotting drone technology to help keep people safer in the water with year-round coverage that will deliver the largest expansion of aerial shark surveillance in the world.
The Government will invest an additional $34 million in drones including harnessing artificial intelligence and emerging technology in a major scale-up of drone coverage across beaches in Sydney and along the NSW coast.
Illawarra beaches that will see action include Towradgi, Fairy Meadow, North Wollongong, and Puckeys, along with Surf Beach Kiama.
Under the expanded program, around 70 beaches will benefit from drone monitoring 365 days of the year, including at least one beach in every coastal local government area.
