Local manufacturing is returning to the South Coast, with construction underway on a new electric bus factory in Nowra.
Work has begun on Foton Mobility Distribution’s new facility, set to deliver zero-emissions buses for New South Wales while keeping bus manufacturing onshore and supporting local suppliers, including Multiparas Unanderra.
Once complete, the site will employ up to 127 workers, up from 19 at its current temporary facility.
Foton Mobility Distribution is an Australian owned electric bus and truck manufacturer, currently fulfilling an order for 128 buses under Transport for NSW’s Zero Emissions Bus Program.
Construction will be delivered in three stages, with the first phase starting today and a new manufacturing shed due in the third quarter of this year. The remaining phases are expected to add a pre-delivery shed and office space by 2027.
