Transport for NSW is advising all road users that a section of Crown Street will be closed later today to help facilitate work associated with the Wollongong Hospital redevelopment.
Crown Street will be closed between New Dapto Road and Darling Street from 3pm Wednesday 1 October until 10am Thursday 2 October.
A detour will be in place via New Dapto Road, Loftus Street and Darling Street.
Traffic is expected to be heavy, particularly during the Thursday evening and Friday morning peaks, adding at least 10 minutes to travel times.
Motorists are advised to avoid Crown Street during the closure and plan ahead.
Alternative routes in and out of Wollongong are available via Masters Road, Springhill Road and Corrimal Street to the south and Memorial Drive, Princes Highway/Flinders Street to the north.
The closure will also impact three bus stops between New Dapto Road and Darling Street. These bus stops will temporarily relocate to Crown Street, east of Darling and Osborne Streets.
