Bulli Junior Football Club has immediately suspended all competitive football activities at Bulli Park.
Taking to social media, the club says they’re taking the action, following the tragic death of an AFL player who struck a ‘covered concrete cricket wicket’ in Victoria.
The club says that earlier this year, video evidence captured an Under-16s player, striking his head on the concrete cricket pitch at Bulli Park during a match, adding they were incredibly fortunate to avoid a catastrophic injury, but ‘the warning’ is undeniable.
The club is urgently seeking an action plan and timeline from Wollongong City Council and Football South Coast to resolve this critical hazard so the community can safely return to the pitch.
