Warrawong NAIDOC Family Fun Day
Warrawong NAIDOC 10th Anniversary Family Fun Day! The 10th anniversary NAIDOC Family Fun Day is happening on Tuesday 1st October, 2024 at Darcy Wentworth Park in Warrawong, to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.This year’s theme Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud – honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The event will be attended by local services including Barnardos Australia, Illawarra Legal Centre, Warrawong Residents Forum, and Coomaditchie United Aboriginal Cooperation, Care South, Lake Illawarra Police, Wollongong City Council, Mission Australia and Department of Communities and Justice. With special thanks to our major sponsor South 32 – Illawarra Metallurgical Coal.
NAIDOC Family Fun Day is a drug and alcohol-free event and will feature a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony performed by respected local Elders. There will be entertainment including singers, dancers, petting Zoo and other musical performances.
It will be a fun day for the whole family with a free BBQ, arts and crafts, children’s activities, information stalls and giveaways. Members of the local community are invited to come along and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and meet their local services.
This year also includes a St George Illawarra Dragons football clinic for the kids!
