Illawarra Relay for Life Celebrates 25 Years of Fighting Cancer

The Illawarra is getting ready to celebrate a major milestone, with Relay for Life Wollongong marking 25 years of bringing the community together to fight cancer.

Registrations are now open for the 25th anniversary Illawarra Relay for Life, taking place on Saturday 19 September 2026 at the UOW Innovation Campus.

The community is invited to put together a team with colleagues, friends, family or community groups and join the relay for a day of fundraising, fun and celebration.

And importantly, Relay for Life is not an endurance event. Participants can walk the track for as little or as much time as they like between 9am and 9pm.

Set against the scenic pond and grounds of the UOW Innovation Campus, the event will have a family-festival atmosphere, with entertainment, live bands, activities, food trucks and plenty more planned throughout the day.

The Wave 96.5 Road Runners will be joining the Illawarra Relay for Life, bringing plenty of energy and encouragement to the track. They’ll be there with the tunes pumping and a hydration station ready to keep participants refreshed, and plenty of words of encouragement to help keep everyone moving. Whether you’re walking for a few laps, staying for hours or simply coming along to support someone you love, the Road Runners will be there to cheer you on and help create the positive, community atmosphere that makes Relay for Life so special.

Over the past 25 years, Relay for Life has brought thousands of people together to remember loved ones, celebrate cancer survivors and carers, and show support for those currently facing cancer.So much has been achieved in the fight against cancer — but there is still so much to do. The 2026 event is an opportunity for the Illawarra community to come together once again, celebrate 25 years of Relay and help raise vital funds for Cancer Council NSW services, cancer research, prevention and support programs.Join us as we come together to fight cancer.

Put together a team, register today, raise funds, dress up, put on your walking shoes and relay your way around the beautiful circuit.

And remember, you don’t have to be a runner, you don’t have to walk for the full day, and you don’t have to do it alone.
