Epilepsy Action Australia Fundraiser
- Ellee-Rose is our beautiful 20 year old daughter. When she was 18months old she was diagnosed with Epilepsy. Ellee-Rose started what we thought were night terrors from about 6months of age. She would scream and scream and you wouldn’t be able to touch her, hold her, or console her. Then it was like a light switch happened and she would just stop screaming and act like nothing had happened. This continued until the doctor ordered and EEG and she was diagnosed with generalised epilepsy.
Ellee-Rose has Absence seizure’s which look like she is just staring into space and then she will regain awareness again. This can last from 30sec to 2 minutes each time affecting her brain. Ellee-Rose also has myclonic seizures, and she has also had 24hr of non-stop tonic clonic seizures.
We as a family have been very fortunate to have Carol Ireland from Epilepsy Action Australia guide us through our Epilepsy journey and that’s exactly what it is a constant journey that not only affects her but also our whole family unit.
As the leading and oldest provider of epilepsy services nationwide, Epilepsy Action Australia focus on improving self-management skills, increasing wider public understanding of this devastating condition, and are at the forefront of partnering and funding research into interventions and treatments.
Around 800,000 Australians experience the unpredictable and often debilitating effect of Epilepsy. The funds raised from this event will be put towards the vital services that Epilepsy Action Australia provides. These services include individual programs, community and professional education, information, referral, consultancy as well as personal development activities such as camps, workshops and weekend programs that help individuals grow through shared experience and peer support.
This year to support Purple Day for Epilepsy Darren and I will be holding a Golf and Dinner.
