Young Women’s Academy Program launched today at Kanahooka

Kanahooka High School will officially launch the NASCA Young Women’s Academy Program today, June 4, 2026, at 11.30am, a vital new initiative supporting Indigenous female students from Year 7 through to Year 12.

In a first for the region, the voluntary educational program aims to nurture the academic, cultural, and wellbeing needs of 50 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander female students.

NASCA focuses on fostering emotional and social wellbeing, offering workshops on mental health, self-care, healthy relationships, and stress management.

It also promotes cultural connection through activities involving Indigenous languages, stories, art, and traditions, supported by visits from Elders and community members who share cultural teachings such as dance, music, and bush foods.

Academic support through tutoring, study skills workshops, goal setting, and assessment preparation aims to boost confidence and improve student outcomes. Students will also have the opportunity to attend special camps like CareerFit and DreamFest to build life skills and explore future career pathways.
