The Motorola Edge 60 Pro is a pretty stylish device that fits into the premium smartphone category. It seamlessly combines power, durability, and cutting-edge technology but probably most impressively it does all that at a price that can come in under $1000 depending on where you shop.

The modern phone is more like a lifestyle device, so we are always looking for something with a great design and power to keep up with daily tasks and entertainment. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the standout features and why this device might be worthy of consideration especially in a market dominated by far more expensive devices.

Battery That Powers Your Day (and More)

Starting with the big headline feature, battery life is probably the cornerstone of any smartphone it’s the first thing most people ask me when talking about devices. The Motorola Edge 60 Pro delivers exceptional performance in this area. Its massive 6000mAh battery ensures you can stream, game, and work without constantly searching for a charger. Even with heavy use, this phone is built to last through your busiest days. On light use I managed to get a few days out of it and I can’t recall the last time I did that with another model.

When it’s time to recharge, Motorola’s 90W TurboPower™ technology steps in, delivering up to 2 days of battery life in just minutes. During a test it charged to around 50% in 15 mins and 100% took only 45mins. This impressive battery performance has garnered the prestigious Gold Label from DXOMARK, earning the highest-ever score in smartphone battery rankings.

The Look and Feel

The device boasts a sleek, contemporary design with a touch of sophistication. But how can a phone look that different from any other? For one thing it comes down to the inclusion of a leather-inspired back that was so appealing I hesitated to use the protective half-case included. Its superb, non-slip texture ensures it stays securely in your pocket, even during a light jog.

The other is the curved display that not only enhances the aesthetics but also provides a comfortable, ergonomic grip. The phone comes in an array of Pantone-verified colours, including Shadow, Sparkling Grape, and Dazzling Blue. Each color is paired with unique textures, such as leather-like, textile-inspired, or wood-like finishes, depending on the variant.

I had the chance to review the Sparkling Grape model which is a really nice purple without being too “out there”. The slim profile of the phone, particularly the refined camera module that doesn’t protrude excessively, adds to its overall elegance and practicality.

Built for Durability

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro is engineered to withstand the rigors of an active lifestyle. With military-grade durability, it’s tough enough to handle drops, rough conditions, and outdoor adventures. Additionally, its top-tier water and dust resistance means it’s ready for eventual smart phone accidents.

A Vibrant Display That Captivates

The Edge 60 Pro boasts a 6.7-inch pOLED HDR10+ quad-curved screen delivering vivid visuals with deeper blacks, infinite contrast, and over a billion colors. Whether you’re watching your favourite series, playing games, or scrolling through social media, the display makes it  an immersive bright experience.

The addition of 120Hz refresh rate means it’s super smooth but in settings this is easily adjusted to provide more battery life. DCI-P3 colour gamut brings cinema-quality visuals, showcasing colours that are rich, vibrant, and true to life. Plus, AI-enhanced brightness ensures excellent visibility, even under direct sunlight.

Photos and Video on the Motorola Edge 60 Pro

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro features a quality camera setup, led by a 50MP Sony Lythia sensor that delivers stunning photos. Whether you’re capturing vibrant daylight shots or low-light scenes, this smartphone camera excels in producing sharp details, natural colours, and minimal noise.

Daylight Photography: In well-lit conditions, the 50MP camera captures crisp details with vibrant yet realistic colours. Photos are sharp, noise is well-controlled, and the results are consistently impressive.

Telephoto Lens: The 2x and 3x zoom capabilities of the telephoto lens perform well, preserving fine details without over-sharpening. Images look natural and well-balanced.

Macro Mode: The dedicated macro mode is wonderfully perfect for extreme close-ups, offering remarkable detail and sharpness. The flexible focal point ensures excellent results for intricate subjects.

Portrait Mode: Portrait shots are where the gold is at, they are super satisfying, with sharp focus on the subject and adjustable bokeh effects. Facial features and hair are handled exceptionally well, though minor areas like clothing may appear slightly soft. Overall, the portrait quality is fantastic on both phone displays and larger screens.

The Sony Lythia sensor shines in low-light photography. It captures enough light to enhance dimly lit areas while maintaining impressive detail and color accuracy. Nighttime shots, such as city streets with restaurant signs or lamp posts, are balanced without overexposure. While finer textures like road surfaces may lack sharpness upon closer inspection, the absence of noise and compression ensures clean, usable photos.

So, from vibrant daylight shots to detailed macro photos and low-light scenes, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro’s camera delivers exceptional results that rival top-tier smartphone cameras. Whether you’re into photography or need a versatile camera for everyday use, this phone is an excellent choice for capturing stunning photos and videos with ease. Video is another story.

Video also looks good, however it’s important to note that the options are limited. I had the ability to shoot in FHD at 30 or 60 frames per second, but 4k was only at 30ffp. The device doesn’t say anything either, if you select 60 it sneaks the setting back to FHD. So I did record a few test videos and was surprised when I uploaded them to my editor.

Powerful Performance

Under the hood, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM. This combination ensures smooth multitasking, lag-free gaming, and the ability to handle demanding apps with ease. On-device AI processing further optimizes performance, delivering speed and efficiency tailored to your usage.

The Moto-AI is uses various AI models like Perplexity AI and Microsoft CoPilot which combine to give unique features like “Pay Attention” for recording and transcribing, and “Catch me up” to get a summary of your notifications. The side button of the phone is dedicated to the AI assistant and can’t be assigned to anything else unfortunately. But is a nice inclusion for a fast action to use the feature. If you are anti AI its going to get increasingly difficult to buy a device without these features, but you can spend some time in settings switching it all off.

There is an assignable button which can be linked to “open an app” or pretty much anything else. I used it to link to the Google Wallet. To activate it, go to settings and look for Gestures. It’s here you can assign a double tap on the back of the device to do your bidding. While we are on motion and gestures, you can shake the phone to turn the flashlight on and off, that is surprisingly handy and functional.

I was also impressed to see that the device came with 512gb of storage which is 4 times that of my base iPhone and was really frustrating for constantly having to manage the space. 512 is a nice amount of managable space without heading into the more expensive terrabyte options.

Pricing and Availability

Priced at an RRP of $1,199 AUD some outlets have it on sale at $999 so coming in under the 1k, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro is available through major retailers, including JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Officeworks, The Good Guys, Mobileciti, Amazon, and the official Motorola website.

Final Verdict

I found the Motorola Edge 60 Pro is a versatile smartphone that excels in critical areas: exceptional battery life, rugged durability, a vibrant display, and style to boot. Its massive battery, combined with lightning-fast charging, makes it the perfect companion for long days. Meanwhile, the brilliant display and powerful chipset cater to entertainment and productivity needs alike.
