The community has rallied behind Woonona Boardriders after an alleged arson attack destroyed the club’s event trailer and all the equipment inside earlier this week.
An online GoFundMe appeal launched to help the club rebuild has already raised more than $9,000 in just over 24 hours, with a target of $13,000.
The fire destroyed years worth of essential gear used to run local surf competitions, community events and junior development programs, including judging and timing equipment, electrical gear, speakers and event infrastructure.
Woonona Boardriders say the loss is a major setback, but volunteers and supporters are determined to keep the club moving forward and get local kids back in the water.
The fundraising campaign aims to replace the lost equipment and ensure the club can continue supporting the next generation of surfers.
