Protest action has continued throughout the week at Bisalloy Steel in Unanderra, with community members maintaining a rolling picket that has now shut down operations for 36 hours.
Demonstrators have interrupted four consecutive shifts since Sunday night – the longest disruption the steel manufacturer has faced.
It marks the ninth such picket at the company, which the Greens claim plays a key role in Australia’s weapons trade with Israel.
The action coincides with Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit to Sydney, which has sparked widespread demonstrations, including a mass protest in the CBD overnight where participants allege police used excessive force.
A contingent from the Unanderra picket attended the Sydney rally before returning to maintain the blockade at Bisalloy’s gates.
Greens MP Sue Higginson, who has been present at the protest, urged locals to continue turning out in support.
“We won’t stop until Palestine is free, so please folks, if you get a moment, come and join this incredible people’s picket right here at Bisalloy,” she told supporters.
Higginson also criticised the NSW Government’s welcome of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, saying he “isn’t welcome here” and pointing to international allegations made against him.
“The Israeli President is visiting NSW with open arms. This is the man who has been found to have incited the crime against humanity of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” she said.
Protesters say they will continue their action for as long as necessary.
