The Illawarra Retirement Trust has been given the green light to proceed with the Woonona Place redevelopment.
The NSW Government has officially approved the project, aimed at delivering much needed housing for the region’s ageing population.
The development will provide a premium seniors living precinct for around 240 residents, including a major upgrade of the Flame Tree residential care home and 92 new independent living homes.
It will also see the site’s heritage listed church restored and repurposed as a restaurant, alongside a range of lifestyle amenities such as a hydrotherapy pool, wellness centre, gym, library, clubhouse and open gardens.
A principal contractor is expected to be appointed in the coming months, with construction slated to begin later this year.
