Kiama mayor dismisses Shellharbour merger calls

Fresh calls have been made for a potential merger between Kiama and Shellharbour councils, as concerns persist over Kiama’s finances.

Kiama Councillor Mike Cains plans to table a motion urging the NSW Local Government Minister to consider a merger option.

However, Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald has rejected the idea, assuring residents there are no plans for an amalgamation and saying the region can stand on its own.
