Wollongong residents are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and help protect the Illawarra’s threatened grassy woodlands at Stream Hill Community Day, happening tomorrow, Tuesday April 14.

The free, family friendly event aims to connect the community with nature, offering hands on activities for all ages, including boomerang art, weaving, guided walks, insect hunts, native bee displays, a plant giveaway and a free sausage sizzle.

The event will also include tree planting, environmental workshops and community planning sessions.

Threatened species officer Alex Pike says the day is about helping locals better understand and protect the region’s unique environment.

“We’re encouraging people to become guardians of the Illawarra’s grassy woodlands and get a bit closer to nature,” he said.

While entry to the event’s free of charge, Pike’s encouraged the community to book online ahead of time via Humanitix.
