Wollongong City Councillor Tiana Myers has resigned from her Ward 3 seat, effective immediately, citing medical advice and ongoing health challenges.
Cr Myers, who was elected to Council in 2024, described the decision as difficult but necessary, saying she needs to prioritise her long term health and wellbeing.
In a statement, she said serving the Wollongong community had been an honour, and thanked fellow councillors, council staff and community members for their support.
Lord Mayor Tania Brown praised Cr Myers for her passion and integrity, acknowledging her strong advocacy and contribution over the past 18 months.
During her time on Council, Cr Myers served on several key committees, including the West Dapto Review Committee, the Southern Area Floodplain Risk Management Committee, and groups focused on coastal management and active transport.
The Ward 3 vacancy will be filled through a countback election, avoiding the need for a by-election.
Wollongong City Council has notified the NSW Electoral Commission, which will now begin the process of contacting eligible candidates from the 2024 local government election.
