Council keen to bypass by-election

Kiama Council is looking to avoid a costly by-election following the resignation of councillor Mike Cains.

Councillors have unanimously agreed to seek approval from the Local Government Minister to operate with just eight members until the 2028 local council election.

The move could save around $200,000, easing financial pressure as the council works under a Performance Improvement Order.
