The NSW Rural Fire Service is reminding the Illawarra to prepare for the threat of bush and grass fires, as the Bush Fire Danger Period officially begins.
RFS Commissioner Trent Curtin, said the Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring, identified an increased risk of fire across parts of northern and south-eastern NSW, and we know conditions can change quickly as we move towards summer.
Since 1 July 2026, firefighters have responded to more than 2,700 bush and grass fires, burning more than 64,000 hectares.
