The NSW RFS is calling on all Illawarra residents and landholders, to do the right thing when it comes to hazard reduction or pile burns.
Superintendent Martin Surrey, said in the Illawarra both bush and grass lands are drying under warmer windier conditions, and as such they need to be notified of any fire activity.
Superintendent Surrey said over the next few weeks, many landholders will take the opportunity to reduce fuel loads on their property, particularly prior to the upcoming Bush Fire Danger Period, that starts 1 October 2026.
