Kiama by-election confirmed after council bid rejected

Kiama locals will head to the polls next month as planned.

Council’s bid to avoid the by-election and around $200,000 in associated costs has been unsuccessful, with the Office of Local Government denying council’s request to instead operate with a temporary reduction in councillors until the next election in 2028.

Nominations for candidates open via the NSW Electoral Commission on July 13, and close July 22

Pre-polling opens August 15, with voting closing on August 22.
