A major conservation push is now underway on the South Coast.
The National Parks Association of NSW has today launched a proposal to create the Great Southern Forest National Park.
The plan would protect nearly 1.2 million hectares of native forest, stretching from the Illawarra to the Victorian border.

Supporters say it would form one of Australia’s largest connected protected areas, safeguarding wildlife, water catchments and local economies.
