Local police are targeting highly modified, dangerous and defective vehicles.

Operation Spoiler saw some of the Illawarra’s worst offenders ordered to Bulli Showground on Sunday May 3, with 39 cars linked to anti-social driving in areas including Mount Keira, Darkes Forest and Knights Hill called in for the one-day inspection blitz.

More than 65 infringement and defect notices were issued, with 18 vehicles taken off the road.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command Inspector Michael McKechnie says action has also been taken against those who failed to attend.

“Disappointingly, a further 22 vehicle owners who were issued direction notices to attend Bulli Showground didn’t attend. Some of those vehicles have already had their registration cancelled by Transport for NSW, with further action to be taken for other vehicle owners,” he said.

“This operation sends a strong message to those drivers who think they can get away with driving dangerous vehicles on our roads, or in a dangerous manner, that the law will catch up with them.”
