A Southern Region police officer has been charged following an internal investigation into the alleged misuse of restricted police information.
A 33 year old male constable was arrested in the Illawarra earlier today, with search warrants executed and several electronic items seized for further examination.
Police will allege the officer unlawfully accessed sensitive NSW Police Force information and disclosed it to individuals believed to be linked to criminal elements.
He has been charged with misconduct in public office, granted conditional bail, and is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court in May.
The officer has been suspended without pay.
