Illawarra hospitals flagged in snap maintenance review

March 2, 2026 4:53 pm in by

NSW Health Minister Ryan Park has ordered a snap review of serious hospital maintenance issues, conceding it’s unrealistic to promise problems will never occur across the state’s health system.

The review found 10 non-routine maintenance issues across the Illawarra Shoalhaven over the past year, with eight already resolved and two still being fixed.

Minister Park says issues are unavoidable across a network of more than 4,000 NSW Health buildings, particularly following severe weather events, but insists problems are acted on quickly once identified.

He says local maintenance teams work to make sites safe as fast as possible, while stressing that NSW hospitals continue to meet national cleanliness standards.

Statewide, the review has so far identified 112 non-routine issues, with the majority already rectified.

The review remains ongoing, with more issues expected to be added as assessments continue.
