Shellharbour residents now have easier access to urgent medical care with the official opening of the Shellharbour Medicare Urgent Care Clinic.

The new clinic was opened today by Federal Health Minister Mark Butler alongside Member for Whitlam Carol Berry, providing walk-in treatment for urgent but non-life threatening conditions.

Located at Barrack Heights, the clinic is fully bulk billed and operates seven days a week from 8am to 8pm, offering a low-cost alternative to hospital emergency departments.

Health Minister Mark Butler says the clinic will help take pressure off local hospitals, while ensuring patients can access care when they need it.

Carol Berry says the service is a major win for the growing Shellharbour community, particularly with rising demand for health services across the Illawarra.

The Shellharbour clinic becomes the 130th Medicare Urgent Care Clinic to open nationwide, joining existing services already operating in Dapto and Wollongong.
