An extreme heatwave warning is in place for the Illawarra for today Friday 5 December and tomorrow, with volunteer lifesavers and lifeguards set to be out in full force this weekend to keep the public safe.
The Bureau of Meteorology indicates that maximum temperatures reaching the mid-thirties will impact key coastal centers including Wollongong, Shellharbour and Kiama local Government areas.
Temperatures increased steadily from yesterday to today, and will do the same again into tomorrow, which is sure to bring thousands more beachgoers to the coastline to escape the heat.
“We strongly encourage people venturing to our coastline, be it today or into the weekend, to visit a beach where they see the red and yellow flags flying and our lifesavers and lifeguards are on duty,” SLSNSW CEO, Steve Pearce said.
