After reoccurring Gastro, 5 major surgeries, 2 amputations, kidney failure and 40 nights in hospital, Rio James Fowler was diagnosed with Arterial Vasculopathy disease.
This rare condition meant Rio's arteries failed to supply enough blood to all his major organs and the blood vessels around his body. Despite major aggressive medical intervention, doctors said that his condition would eventually shut down his entire body. Despite his terminal illness, Rio continued to inspire, smile, dance and challenge the disease until his brave fight came to an end in January of 2018.
While Rio only got a short 17 months on this earth, his legacy lives on.
Rio's Legacy was created to assist families facing one of life’s greatest challenges; living life with a terminally ill child. The Fowler's vision is to see at least one hospice in every state of Australia that supports and assists children with a terminal illness and their families.
Uncle of Rio and Shellharbour dad of 4, Chad Fowler is continuing the fundraising effort by embarking on a 24 hour run on Jan 16.
