Justin Bieber has revealed he was recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, an infection caused by bacteria commonly carried by ticks.
The 25 year old singer told his fans "It's been a rough couple years" on Instagram, adding that he also "had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy and overall health."
This news follows the release of Beiber's first solo single in four years, Yummy, and the announcement that he will be releasing a docuseries Justin Beiber: Seasons this year where he will share more details on his battle with Lyme Disease.
His full announcement read:
"While a lot of people kept saying justin Beiber looks like shit, on meth etc. they failed to realize I've been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a seriouse case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy and overall health. These things will be explained further in a docuseries I'm putting on YouTube shortly.. you can learn all that I've been battling and OVERCOMING!! It's been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP".
Following the announcement, critics began to downplay the severity of Lyme disease, Justin Beiber's wife, model Hailey Beiber, defended her husband saying "Please do your resesarch and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years. Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself."
