Albion Park Rail woman named Shellharbour's Good Neighbour of the Year

A woman who goes above and beyond for her neighbours has been handed the city's top neighbourly honour.

Petra Medcalf was nominated by her Albion Park Rail neighbours of almost 30 years for being what they describe as a 'living treasure.'

Blackbutt can lay claim to having Shellharbour's Street of the Year.

Tuan Street claimed the gong.

A resident on the small street that links Pioneer Drive and Glider Avenue said the whole street looks after one another.

Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the awards highlight the powerful impact a strong sense of community has on families and individuals.

"Each year council recognises and pays thanks to all the good neighbours in Shellharbour for their time, effort and willingness to assist others.

"Good neighbours help improve safety and the overall quality of life in our community and build the communities you want to live in, one relationship at a time.

"All of our entrants and winners deserve our thanks and appreciation for the difference they are making to their community," Homer said.
