Driver pays the price for DIY removal in North Wollongong

A male driver in North Wollongong has been fined $469 and docked three points for having an unsecured load.

Illawarra Highway Patrol pulled over the Toyota Corolla on Bourke Street with a mattress attached to the roof by two occy straps.

"Even with the driver travelling at a low speed of 30kph in the 60kph zone (due to the instability of the load), the mattress was witnessed flapping about and sliding backwards," Police said.

Police said the ends of the straps were secured to the head rest poles of the driver and passenger seats.

The male was directed to remove the load and make alternative arrangements.
