Member for Kiama Gareth Ward and Kiama Central Precinct Chair Mark Greaves, are calling on the local Kiama community to join a rally against over-development in Kiama, as a review takes places of a re-zoning proposal in South Kiama.

"With the independent review of the Department of Planning’s decision happening right now, it’s time for our community to make some noise. Our community should decide the future of our urban environment, not Sydney bureaucrats and Sydney developers,” Mr Ward said.

“We all understand the need for sensible and sustainable growth. The South Kiama proposal is not it. The claim by the applicant that this will support affordable housing is simply laughable.

“It’s time for our community to send a strong and unambiguous message to the NSW Government; we have had enough of our community being over-developed and we will not back down in fighting to protect our local community,” Mr Ward said.

Kiama Central Precinct Chair Mark Greaves said it was essential the community show their strong opposition to over-development.

“This will be a short sharp rally. It’s about showing the NSW Government that our community is strongly opposed to this outrageous planning proposal,” Mr Greaves said.

The rally will take place in Hindmarsh Park, Kiama at 10AM on Saturday 22nd January 2022.
