Tokyo Olympian Sarah Carli is throwing her support behind the International Women’s Day Illawarra 2022 scholarship program and encouraging women of all ages with a dream for their future to nominate now.

The 2020 recipient of the Kerryn McCann IWD Scholarship for Women (Sport) realised one of her dreams earlier this year when she took her place on the starting line of the 400 metres hurdles in Tokyo, representing Australia and the Illawarra with pride.

With the scholarship offsetting some of the many costs of pursuing her athletics goal, Sarah said it was important women embrace all opportunities to expand their skills and create an environment for them to have the best opportunity to succeed.

“There are a lot of components to succeeding in reaching your goals and the support of groups like International Women’s Day Illawarra are incredibly important,” she said.

“The scholarship allowed me to meet some of the costs of travelling to competitions and the benefits of that are far-reaching.”

There are seven scholarships worth $2,000 each on offer in 2022, across a range of categories.

Started in 2009, the IWD Illawarra Scholarships are predominantly named in honour of inspirational Illawarra women who are no longer with us but who left their mark on the region in the fields in which they excelled.
