Local COVID numbers creep up as NSW hospital cases rise

Five new COVID-19 cases have been recorded in Wollongong.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District said all of the new cases are linked to known cases.

Two cases are in the 2500 postcode and two from 2526 while there's one in 2505.

"The District reminds the community to remain vigilant for even the mildest of symptoms, and to continue to come forward for testing andvaccination," a statement said.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District said there were seven people being treated in hospital to 8pm last night.

The number of COVID-19 patients in New South Wales hospitals has edged back above 200 with 202 people requiring treatment, 30 are in intensive care.

180 new cases have been detected across the state in the latest 24 hour reporting period while one person has died.
