Over 84% of NSW residents aged 16+ are now single dose vaccinated, with 56.6% now fully vaccinated. A third of all 12-15 year olds have now received a first jab. At the current vaccination rates, NSW is now on track to hit 70% double dose on October 7, and 80% around October 17. The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 9,356,439.
NSW recorded 1,043 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, from 131,000 tests.
Of these, 103 are attributed to the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District, our worst day so far and a jump of almost 60% since yesterday. There have now been over 1000 cases in the Illawarra Shoalhaven since the outbreak began in June.
Dr Kerry Chant advised that Wollongong and Shellharbour cases are concerning and has urged everyone to come forward to get tested and vaccinated.
There are currently 1,186 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, with 232 people in intensive care, 110 of whom require ventilation. Sadly, another 11 people have passed, the youngest being a person in their 40s.
