Member for Wollongong, Paul Scully MP, has called on the Berejiklian Government to get moving on the construction of lifts at Unanderra Station following the resumption of construction activity in the Illawarra on Saturday.
Mr Scully said that now that the construction industry has restarted following a two week COVID-related closure, it was more important than ever that local projects like building the Unanderra Station lifts got underway.
“The Minister for Transport advised me that a construction contract for the Unanderra Station lifts was to be awarded in July – it’s now August.
“Work is already underway to build lifts and improve access to Towradgi Station; it’s time that work got underway at Unanderra Station too”, Mr Scully said.
Unanderra residents have been fighting for years to gain full access for everyone to their local station.
The community campaign has been won and everyone is looking to the Berejiklian Government for a construction start date and expected completion date.
“In the last two budgets $15 million has been allocated to the project which was a tremendous victory for our community but people are now waiting with baited breath for work to get underway.
“In a tough time for our community and it would be nice for residents to have something to look forward to”, Mr Scully said.
It is expected that up to 75 construction jobs will be created by the project.
