Park labels plan to remove mountain bike jumps at Tarrawanna 'ridiculous'

The Shadow Minister for the Illawarra has gone into bat for mountain bikers.

Member for Keira Ryan Park is cranky that the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services will remove dirt jumps on Possums Track at Tarrawanna.

The jumps have been built by biking enthusiasts over the years and Park wants them to remain.

He has fired off a letter to Environment Minister, Matt Kean, calling the move ridiculous and requesting it be reversed immediately.

"This track is used by many local kids (including my own) and their parents to enjoy the sport of Mountain Biking," Park wrote in the letter.

"What NPWS should be doing is trying to formalise these tracks so they can be enjoyed by everyone in a sustainable way.

"The progress to formalise tracks across the escarpment is a long way off and 'Possums' shouldn't be destroyed in the meantime reducing yet again opportunities for young people and others to engage in this positive recreational activity.

"I request this decision to be immediately reviewed and a plan put in place on how these well-established tracks may be formalised and managed appropriately going forward," Park wrote.
