Up to 35 frontline Port Authority workers at Port Kembla will be among the first to receive a COVID 19 vaccine at Wollongong Hospital.

The Port Authority of NSW announced today, that over 800 international ships visit Port Kembla each year, as it is the largest motor vehicle importation terminal in NSW, as well as a key port for exporting grain, and to support the steel and mining industries in the Illawarra.

Port Authority Head of Operations, Port Kembla and South Coast Peter Ernst, says the organisation was working closely with NSW Health, to ensure the vaccine was available to its frontline staff, on an 'opt-in' basis as soon as possible.

Mr Ernst said he expected the first doses of the vaccine to be rolled out to eligible Port Authority staff in Port Kembla and Newcastle from this week, and they would receive their vaccinations at Wollongong Hospital and John Hunter Hospital respectively.
