Lake Illawarra Police are investigating why a car that was involved in a pursuit yesterday ended up being torched in Warrawong.

The driver fled after crashing the Toyota Camry into a retaining wall on Jane Avenue where police gathered evidence.

Not long after officers left the scene, the vehicle is thought to have been deliberately set on fire.

The blaze was extinguished by a crew from Fire and Rescue NSW.

Police are appealing for anyone with info to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
