Some people swimming at Illawarra beaches still aren't having a dip between the flags.
Surf Life Saving Illawarra said it's lifesavers were flat out last weekend rescuing people from unpatrolled locations including 17 separate rescues outside of the flagged area at Stanwell Park beach.
Four people were also saved 300 meters south of the flags at Woonona after being caught in a rip.
In another incident, an off duty lifesaver noticed a family group struggling in a rip 60 metres from shore around 6pm on Saturday when the beach was closed.
The group of children and adults where safely returned to the beach although one person was taken to hospital for assessment.
Surf Life Saving Illawarra said a male was also transported to hospital after suffering a shoulder injury at Port Kembla.
