The RFS will be back at it tomorrow pending suitable weather conditions.
They plan to undertake a 10 hectare hazard reduction burn in Helensburgh.
Ten RFS tankers and support crews will conduct the operation on Walker Street near Cemetery Road with the assistance of Fire and Rescue NSW.
"This hazard reduction burn, identified through the Illawarra Bushfire Management Committee will reduce the overall risk to numerous properties," said RFS Illawarra District Officer Matt Reeves.
Crews will be working along Walker Street, near Cemetery Road and whilst there are no planned road closures, motorists should avoid the area.
RFS Illawarra advises that if you need to pass through, slow down and follow any directions from crews on the ground.
Only call triple zero (000) if you see a fire without a fire truck in attendance.
"We have had an excellent window of opportunity to conduct a number of hazard reductions in the Helensburgh, Stanwell Tops and Otford areas over the past few months, which collectively has reduced the overall bush fire risk to these communities," Reeves said.
