Inside Industry has announced that a new guided tour experience along Wollongong's Blue Mile will commence on 23 October 2020.
Telling the stories of Wollongong's Foreshore, the 2.5 hour Walking Guided Tour includes the stories of this region’s First Peoples, its early settlers and convicts, the start of industry in this region and how people from all over the world have made the area the important and thriving city and region it has become.
Inside Industry chair, Courtney West said the Blue Mile History Tour will capitalise on the campaigns for Australians to holiday at home this year.
"The Blue Mile Tour takes in some of the most iconic sites in Wollongong and we are excited to play a role in visitors and locals enjoying the rich history of our city.
"Our team has worked to develop COVID safe options that will encourage visitors to come to Wollongong this holiday season.
"We encourage locals to come for a fun tour and maybe learn a little about this great place we live in," she said.
Commencing on Flagstaff Hill, the tour takes a leisurely walk along the old coal tramway to North Wollongong Beach and then along Cliff Drive back to the First Courthouse.
Designed to be of appeal to visitors and residents, groups and educational organisations – the 12 stop Guided Tour has been written to be enjoyable, interesting and fun – whilst the tour guests will enjoy some of the best foreshore views available.
The Tour has been developed with the support of Destination Wollongong.
"This is a great addition to Wollongong’s tour experiences," said Destination Wollongong General Manager Mark Sleigh.
"Activating the Blue Mile will assist in ensuring that visitors maximise their enjoyment of a visit to Wollongong," he said.
Public Tours will be offered on Fridays and Saturday mornings and Group and Education Tours can be arranged, through Inside Industry, on any day (Monday to Saturday).
