Pregnant woman randomly assaulted as man charged in Wollongong


A man will face court today, charged after allegedly randomly assaulting several members of the public including a pregnant woman.

Officers from Wollongong Police District were patrolling Corrimal Street around 11.45am yesterday when they came across a man allegedly punching members of the public.

Police have been told the man approached a woman, who is seven months pregnant and deliberately barged her into a fence.

Police said no one was injured as a result of the incident.

A 46-year-old man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for assessment before being taken to Wollongong station where he was charged with common assault.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear in Wollongong Local Court today.

Police said their investigation is continuing.
