Wind warning for the Illawarra

A high pressure system lies over the southern Tasman Sea, while a low pressure trough is deepening off the northern New South Wales coast. This trough is forecast to deepen to a low pressure system from late Saturday or early Sunday before heading south. Depending on its position, strong winds and large surf to some coastal areas are possible from the later part of the weekend into early next week.

Wollongong area

Cloudy. Very high (near 100%) chance of rain and the chance of a thunderstorm, possibly heavy. Light winds becoming east to southeasterly 20 to 30 km/h in the middle of the day then tending south to southeasterly 25 to 35 km/h in the evening.
