NSW pubs and clubs facing a return to tougher restrictions

The number of people allowed in pubs and clubs is expected to be slashed with restrictions set to be tightened to manage the spread of coronavirus in New South Wales.

The Premier is tipped to outline the new rules today after 21 people linked to the Crossroads Hotel have tested positive for COVID-19.

A special meeting of state cabinet Ministers last night discussed reducing people limits at large venues to 300 patrons and stricter cleaning rules.

Group bookings are expected to be halved from 20 to a maximum of 10.

John Green from the Australian Hotels Association says the outbreak is a reality check.

"This disease is virulent and we just need to keep some measures in place to keep everyone safe and make sure what's been our greatest benefit which is contact tracing is continued in a proper manner," he said.
